Description: 
Cleaner Production Policy, 1997: The policy for clean production is based on minimizing the impacts and risk for human beings, environment, economic growth, social welfare and business competitiveness. Its objectives are: Optimization of natural resources used, increase of energy efficiency, and the use of cleaner energy carriers; also it aims at preventing and minimizing the use of pollutants, prevent, reduce, correct and compensate the environment impacts on people, and ecosystems; Also to adopt cleaner practices and technologies for a continuous improvement in environmental management, minimization and valorization of residues. The UN selected Colombia as the pilot country. The National Centre for Cleaner Production and Environmental technologies (CNPMLTA) was chosen as the coordinating entity for the entire study. The study has two components: a diagnostic study of clean technology capacities and needs in Colombia, and a study of the opportunities for Cleaner Production in Latin America.
