Description:
Law No. 23/1997 on environmental management requires any business enterprise to take full account of the environmental implications of its business operations. In order to obtain a plantation permit, a prospective company must have approved documents, comprising an environmental impact assessment (EIA) and environmental management and monitoring plans. The documents detail potential impacts on the environment and plans for monitoring and managing of those impacts. EIA documents are a tool to help decision makers determine whether or not a project should continue.
