Factsheet: REDD+

Key Information

The basis for REDD+ is that developed countries provide financial support to developing countries which demonstrate reduced emissions from forests at a national level, as measured against a business as usual scenario (or reference level). The reduction of deforestation and forest degradation could deliver significant climate change mitigation benefits and, if designed properly, could also significantly contribute to protection of biodiversity, sustainable provision of forest goods and services, resilience of forest ecosystems, poverty reduction, improved forest governance, food and water security, improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities, and clarifying land tenure rights.
- Stimulate sustainable forest management. - Regulate forest protection and forest management.
