Waste management

Key Information
This bylaw constitutes the framework legislation in waste management in Turkey. Turkish by-law on waste is in full alignment with the provisions of the old EU Waste Directive 2006/12/EC and Decision 2000/532/EC that establishes a waste list. In addition, the by-law also transposes certain provisions of the current EU Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC. Concerning full harmonization with the EU acquis on waste management, Turkey plans to fully implement the provisions of Directive 2006/12/EC by the end of the year 2014 and intends to fully transpose and implement Directive 2008/98/EC by the end of the year 2015. In addition to By-law on General Principles of Waste Management, there are certain other legislations which regulate the area of waste in Turkey. By-law on Solid Waste Control (1991), By-law on Hazardous Waste Control (2005), By-law on Packaging Waste Control (2007) and By-law on Waste Oils Control (2008) also relates and regulates certain aspects of the new EU Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC.
