Order relating to the prevention and management of waste

Key Information
Description:
Given the scarcity of resources and increasing costs, a change in vision is taking place in relation to waste. Waste is increasingly considered as potential resource, i.e. reusable secondary materials in other production processes. Therefore, sorting of waste is a key step in the life cycle of products. In fact, over 70% of waste could be recycled if it was separated at the source, which represents a saving of valuable resources. However, in the Brussels Capital Region, sorting of waste tends to stagnate in recent years and the Brussels results in sorting and recycling are lower than the national average. That is why in June 2012 a new ordinance on waste was adopted by the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region.
